NYC Warhorse Statues

NYC Warhorse Statues

Posted by Aaron Taylor on

For Memorial Day weekend, we salute all who have given their lives in service of our country, including the millions of horses that never returned from the battlefield. New York City pays homage to military figures and their steeds with commemorative statuary around town. Worth a visit and a selfie whether you are a resident or tourist!

Check out George Washington riding astride in Union Square Park. Dedicated in 1856, it is the oldest statue in the NYC Parks collection. Come visit us at the shop afterwards, we're just a few blocks away!

William Tecumseh Sherman gets the gilded treatment at his equestrian monument at the southeast corner of Central Park.

The Horse Soldier Statue, or America's Response Monument, in Liberty park pays homage to service members of Special Operations forces who fought during the first stages of the Afghanistan war, including the local horses that transported them into difficult mountainous terrain.

Thank you, heroes, both human and horse!
