Claremont Nostalgia

Claremont Riding Academy operated on 175 West 89th Street from 1892 to 2007. It was the last public stable in Manhattan. Those of us old enough to remember the quirky facility with big columns in the arena and the happy times galloping along Central Park bridlepaths (and getting secret joy from surprising joggers) look back on the establishment with great fondness and a tug of melancholy. We present below a roundup of images of the venerable academy. Want to see riders in action at Claremont? Check out this YouTube video for a smile.

If you are shopping for riding gear during the pandemic lockdown, please consider Manhattan Saddlery for your needs. When you purchase from us, you not only get the products you love, but you also help keep the last permanent vestige of NYC's equestrian character alive. We are fulfilling orders online anytime and via phone every day between 10 am and 7 pm at (212) 673-1400. Please stay safe and healthy!
